About Neon Break

Neon Break is a brick-breaking arcade game. Bounce the ball off your paddle and smash every brick in the wall — but don't let the ball fall past you.

The solo mode has 100 levels that get harder as you go, with a boss wall every tenth level and plenty of power-ups. Or battle the computer or a friend on the same wall.

How to play Neon Break

Goal

Bounce the ball off your paddle and smash every brick in the wall. Don't let the ball fall past your paddle! When the last breakable brick goes, you move on to the next level.

Modes

  • 🧱 Solo — 100 levels that get harder as you go: more rows, tougher bricks, metal walls, sliding rows and a faster ball. Every 10th level is a boss wall. You can start at level 1 or at any 10th level you have reached before (11, 21, 31…).
  • ⚔️ Battle — against the computer or a friend. You both get the same wall and the same capsules. The first to clear their wall wins — or you win when your opponent loses all 3 lives. Choose Easy, Normal or Hard walls, and 1 round or best of 3.

How to play

  • Touch: put your finger anywhere on the field and slide it left and right — the paddle chases your finger. Lift your finger to launch the ball (or to let go of a held ball).
  • Mouse: move the mouse — the paddle follows it. Click to launch.
  • Keyboard: ← → or A D move, Space launches (and fires the rail gun), P pauses (Solo), M turns the music on or off.
  • The paddle has a top speed: it can't jump straight to your finger, it races there. Move early!
  • Where the ball hits the paddle sets its angle: the middle sends it straight up, the ends send it off to the side.
  • The ball launches by itself after 3 seconds.

Bricks

  • Normal — one hit. Tough — two or three hits (the inner rings show how many are left, and cracks appear).
  • Metal — can't be broken. Bounce round it.
  • Explosive (✸) — blows up the bricks around it, and can set off a chain.
  • Power-up (★) — always drops a capsule. Other bricks sometimes drop one too.
  • Sliding rows (level 21+) move from side to side. Regrowing bricks (↻, level 35+) come back after 7 seconds unless you finish the wall first. Shield bricks (⬡, level 45+) protect the bricks next to them until you break the shield brick.

Lives & streaks

You start with 3 lives. Clear 3 levels in a row without losing a life and you get +1 life (up to 5). The three little diamonds under your hearts show your streak. Already at 5 lives? The streak gives a 5,000 point bonus instead. Losing a life resets the streak — and ends any power-ups (or attacks) you have running.

Power-ups

Catch the falling capsules with your paddle. Active power-ups show as little icons under your paddle; the ring around each one shows the time left.

Rail gun (10 s)Twin laser bolts fire from your paddle
Multi ballEvery ball splits into three
Wide paddle (15 s)A much wider paddle
Hold ball (20 s)The ball sticks to your paddle — let go to shoot
Speed boost (15 s)Your paddle moves much faster
Extra lifeOne more life (or 2,000 points at 5 lives)
Break ball (8 s)Fireballs! Every ball burns straight through every brick it touches — tough and shielded ones too. Only metal stops it

🔥 Break ball is rare: it can only drop when a combo reaches 10, 20, 30… bricks (half the time, once a level). Catch it and for 8 seconds every ball is a fireball that burns through bricks without bouncing.

Hold ball: the ball sticks to your paddle when it lands. Lift your finger, click or press Space to shoot it — or it goes by itself after 3 seconds. It lasts for 6 catches or 20 seconds.

Debuffs — dodge the red skulls (Solo)

From level 6 some capsules are debuffs: they glow red and carry a skull. Let them fall past you! Catch one and an alarm sounds and it hits you. They're about 1 capsule in 6 at first and get more common — about 1 in 4 by level 50.

Faster ball (10 s)Your balls speed up
Shrink paddle (12 s)Your paddle shrinks
Slow paddle (10 s)Your paddle moves at half speed

Duel attacks — catch the green laughing faces

In a battle the same capsules (and three more) glow green with a laughing face: they're good for you. Catch one and it hits your opponent, not you — with an evil laugh:

Faster ball (10 s)Your opponent's balls speed up
Metal bricks (10 s)A third of their bricks turn to metal
Shrink paddle (12 s)Their paddle shrinks
DisarmRemoves all their power-ups
Brick drop (15 s)Their wall shakes and drops a row
Slow paddle (10 s)Their paddle moves at half speed

Brick drop: their whole wall shakes for a second, then drops down a row. After 15 seconds it shakes again and goes back up.

Battle rules

  • Each round both players get the same wall and 3 lives. Clear your wall first, or outlast your opponent.
  • After 4 minutes it's sudden death: the balls get faster and faster.
  • In best of 3, every round is a new wall. Scores add up over the rounds.

Scoring

  • Every brick scores points, and more in a combo — bricks broken one after another without the ball touching your paddle.
  • Each cleared level gives a clear bonus, a time bonus (be quick!) and a bonus for every life you still have.
  • Your best Solo scores go into a top 10 on this device. Solo games are saved as you play: pause and choose 💾 Save & quit (or just leave), and next time you start Solo you'll be asked whether to Continue or start a new game.

Tips

  • Solo: move out of the way of red skull capsules — unless you're chasing the ball.
  • Hit the ball with the end of the paddle to aim it into gaps — a ball trapped above the wall breaks lots of bricks on its own.
  • Don't chase every capsule: the ball comes first.
  • In a battle, save the race: a Brick drop or Metal bricks attack is strongest when your opponent is nearly done.
  • Rail gun bolts can't break metal, but they make short work of tough bricks.
