About Pipe Word
Pipe Word is a fast word-finding game: drag across neighbouring letters in a 4×4 or 5×5 grid to make words before the clock runs out. Longer words score more, and a glowing pipe follows your finger as you go.
Play on your own against the clock, try the daily puzzle, take on the computer, or open a table for up to six players who all race on the same grid.
How to play Pipe Word
Goal
Find as many words as you can in the grid of letters before time runs out. Longer words score more.
Setup
Everyone gets the same grid (4×4 or 5×5) and the same amount of time. Play on your own against the clock, try today's Daily puzzle, play the computer, or open a table for up to 6 players.
Making a word
- Drag across neighbouring letters — up, down, sideways or diagonally. A glowing pipe joins them as you go. Let go to submit.
- Slide back one tile to undo the last letter.
- Each tile can be used once per word, but in as many different words as you like.
- Words need at least 3 letters. Qu sits on one tile.
- On a keyboard you can also just type a word and press Enter.
- Tap Done ✓ if you've finished early.
Scoring
- 3 or 4 letters: 1 point
- 5 letters: 2
- 6 letters: 3
- 7 letters: 5
- 8 or more: 11
With more than one player, a word that two or more players found scores nothing (you can switch this off when you open a table). Hunt for the words nobody else will see!
The word list
Both British and American spellings count — colour and color, realise and realize. Names, abbreviations and words with hyphens or apostrophes don't. Rude words are left out.
Fair play
Nobody can see the grid early: every player's browser adds a secret to choose it. When time is up, each list is locked in before any are shown, so nobody can copy.
How the game ends
When the timer runs out (or everyone taps Done), the lists are revealed and scored. Tap any word to see where it was on the grid, and check the Missed tab for the words nobody found.
Tips
- Look for endings like -ING, -ED, -ER and plurals with S — one find often gives you two words.
- Short words add up fast, but one 8-letter word is worth 11.
- In multiplayer, skip the obvious words everyone will find.

Yes. Pipe Word runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers, so there's no app to install. You can add Neon Game Cave to your home screen to open it like an app.
Do I need an account to play Pipe Word?
No. You can play straight away as a guest. Signing in with Google is optional — it keeps your games safe in the cloud and, in games with leaderboards, puts your best scores on them.
