About Word Search
Free word search puzzles in your browser. Pick a topic — animals, food, space, sport, nature, ocean, music, home or a mix — and a size from an easy 10×10 grid to a hard 14×14.
Play in your own time, race a countdown, or start a battle for 2 to 4 players: everyone searches the same grid, and the first to find a word claims it in their colour.
How to play Word Search
Goal
Find the hidden words in the grid of letters. Every word you need is listed under the grid.
Three ways to play
- 🧩 Solo — no pressure. Find every word in your own time; your finishing time is shown at the end.
- ⏱ Timer — find as many as you can before the countdown runs out (3, 5 or 8 minutes).
- ⚔️ Battle — 2 to 4 players race on the same grid. The first player to find a word claims it in their colour, and nobody else can take it any more.
Battles for 2–4 players
- One friend — challenge a player from the lobby.
- 2–4 friends — press 👥 Open a table, pick how many seats and the puzzle. Everyone in the lobby can see your table and sit down; press Start game when you're ready. Others can watch the race live.
- The computer — pick ⚔️ Battle vs 1, 2 or 3 🤖. Each computer player hunts on its own.
- Every player has their own colour — on the grid, in the word list and next to their name, with live scores.
- If someone leaves, the words they found stay theirs and the others carry on.
Finding a word
- Drag from the first letter of a word to the last, in a straight line. Let go to check it.
- Or tap the first letter, then tap the last letter.
- Words run in straight lines only — across, down or diagonally. You can drag either way along a word.
Difficulty
- Easy — 10×10 grid, 8 words, only across → and down ↓.
- Medium — 12×12, 11 words, also diagonals.
- Hard — 14×14, 14 words, in all 8 directions — words can be written backwards!
Pick a topic (animals, food, space, sport, nature, ocean, music, home) or Mixed.
Battle scoring
Whoever finds the most words wins. If players are level, whoever found more letters wins — and if that's level too, it's a tie. The battle ends when every word is found, when the time limit (if any) runs out, or as soon as the leader is too far ahead for anyone to catch. With 3 or 4 players the game-over card shows 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
Tips
- Look for unusual letters like Z, Q, X, K and J first — they stand out.
- Scan for double letters (OO, LL, EE) from the word list.
- On Hard, try reading each row backwards too.

How do I play Word Search with a friend online?
Open the Game Cave and challenge your friend from the Players online list in the lobby, or open a table for up to 4 players. To be sure you find each other, share a chat room code first — friends in a chat room also get free text chat during the game.
Can I play Word Search on my phone or tablet?
Yes. Word Search runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers, so there's no app to install. You can add Neon Game Cave to your home screen to open it like an app.
Do I need an account to play Word Search?
No. You can play straight away as a guest. Signing in with Google is optional — it keeps your games safe in the cloud and, in games with leaderboards, puts your best scores on them.
