About Marble Solitaire
Marble solitaire (also called peg solitaire) is a classic one-player puzzle: jump one marble over another into an empty hole and take the jumped marble off. Finish with just one marble left — in the centre for a perfect game.
Play the English 33-hole board, the European 37, a triangle or a diamond, relaxed or against the clock.
How to play Marble Solitaire
Goal
Clear the board! Jump marbles over each other until only one is left. Finish with that last marble in the centre (or in the hole you started with) for a perfect game.
Modes
- 🧩 Relaxed — no time limit. Take as long as you like.
- ⏱ Timer — 3, 5 or 10 minutes. When time's up, the marbles still on the board are your score (fewer is better).
Boards
- English — the famous plus-shaped board with 33 holes. The middle hole starts empty.
- European — the French board with 37 holes. Its middle start can't be finished with one marble, so the classic start has the hole near the top.
- Triangle — 15 holes. Marbles can jump in six directions along the lines of the triangle.
- Diamond — a big 41-hole diamond, for when you want a long puzzle.
- 🎲 Random hole starts with a different empty hole — always one that can be solved down to a single marble.
How to play
- A marble jumps over a neighbouring marble into an empty hole right behind it, in a straight line (up, down, left or right — no diagonals on the square boards).
- The marble you jumped over is taken off the board.
- Tap a marble to pick it up — the holes it can jump to glow — then tap where it should go. You can also drag it there.
- If only one marble can jump into an empty hole, just tap the hole.
- Chains of jumps are simply one jump after another.
- ↶ Undo takes back a jump (as many as you like). ⟲ Restart (tap twice) starts the board again.
- 💡 Hint shows a jump that can still lead to a single marble. If there isn't one, it tells you to undo.
- Keyboard: U or Ctrl+Z to undo, H for a hint.
How the game ends
The game ends when no more jumps are possible. Your score is the number of marbles left:
- 1 in the centre or your starting hole — Perfect! 🏆 Genius
- 1 — Brilliant · 2 — Excellent · 3 — Very good · 4 — Good · 5 or more — Keep practising
Tips
- Clear the far ends of the arms early — marbles stranded out there are hard to rescue later.
- Try not to leave a marble alone with no neighbours.
- Work in small blocks: a set of jumps that clears three marbles in a row and comes back where it started is very handy.
- Stuck? Undo a few jumps and ask for a hint.
